Set the Sky to Music lights show flies over Arnot Mall
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- People could jam out at the Arnot Mall Saturday night with the Set the Sky to Music Light show. The Parking Lot Party by JC Penny set the stage for the unique light show.
One hundred and twenty drones flew roughly 400 feet over the Arnot Mall while flashing colorful lights in patterns similar to a traditional fireworks show. The drones dart around the sky in sync with music being played by various local radio stations. Scott Free from Wink 106 was over the moon to have a major parking lot party set the stage for the first lights show at the mall.
“This year presented the opportunity; that coming back and bringing everyone together,” Scott said. “The story speaks for itself when you see everyone here. It's great.”
Vendors, food, bounce houses, and other attractions were available to the public at the Parking Lot Party. Many sponsors were also happy to be back in person for summer fun.
“We're loving getting back out into the community and seeing our friends again,” Beth Loesch, Manager of Marketing & PR It's been way too long and we're also really excited to see our name in lights at the drone lights show, the first-ever of its kind, so, super exciting to be out here.”
KC Sealock was the lead pilot for Saturday’s show. Before coming to Horseheads, he brought a Pixis Drones light show to the NBA Draft in Brooklyn. He explains the benefits of having this type of performance over a typical fireworks show.
“We're much more environmentally safe,” Sealock said. “We’re not leaving a lot of chemicals behind, a lot of smoke residue, burnt paper, smoking embers, and the after-detritus from a fireworks show.”
