Missing Pair Found Safe After Reporting Missing on Chemung River
10:30PM UPDATE -- Authorities tell WENY News the two people who had been reporting missing were found safe. The two were reported missing after they had been floating down the Chemung river with family earlier on Tuesday, and became separated from the others.
No other information on where the pair was found was provided.
CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WENY) -- A possible river rescue is underway along the Chemung River near the Town of Chemung on Tuesday night.
First responders have staged at a boat launch near White Wagon Road, located near the CVS Distribution facility. Teams are also reportedly staged at other boat nearby. One scanner report indicated a crew staging at a boat launch just across the border into Pennsylvania near Sayre.
According to Chemung County Sheriff Bill Schrom, as of 10:00 p.m., the search is still underway, and rescuers are looking for two people. The initial search started sometime around 8:30 p.m.
A drone has been deployed over the boat launch near White Wagon Road.
