SAYRE, P.A. (WENY) -- Guthrie is enhancing its patient experience with its newest addition to the nightstand.

MyChart Bedside allows Guthrie patients to access details about their condition and treatment from a bedside tablet. The program allows patients to review information about their hospitalization from their lab results to prescribed medications. Patients can also sign forms, message their care team, and even take notes.

“There are iPad tablets at every bedside,” Jessica LaValle, CCRN, said. “On admission, the patients are logged in to their tablet and it gives them access to the MyChart Bedside from the C-Board, as well as all of their patient information, care team information, all of that as well.”

The COVID pandemic created staffing shortages among other issues across Guthrie. The program enhances patients' telemedicine experience while catering to short-staffed teams

“It's a great staff satisfier,” LaValle said. “Trying to get the patients engaged in their healthcare and care management; it helps the staff out.”

MyChart also allows patients to monitor their nutritional intake through a new dietary program added this spring. This gives patients the ability to select meal choices fit for their dietary needs.

“It's pushing its utilization,” LaValle said. “We want patients choosing their meals. That way, they're happier with the meals that they get. They know what they've asked for and getting items they like.”
