Officers Injured at Elmira Correctional Facility

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - On May 18th, two officers sustained injuries after being attacked by a convicted murderer at Elmira Correctional Facility.
The attack occurred as inmates were returning from lunch and were ordered back into their cells. One inmate refused to enter his cell and began yelling. When two officers approached him, he struck one officer in the left side of the face, knocking the officer to the floor.
The inmate continued to attack the officer on the floor, striking him multiple times in head.
The second officer grabbed the inmate in a body hold and pulled him backwards, off the injured officer. He forced the inmate to the floor.
The officer initially attacked, sustained abrasions to his chin, elbow and shoulder. The second officer sustained neck abrasions subduing the inmate. They were both treated by facility medical staff and remained on duty.
The inmate is serving a 25 years to life sentence after being convicted in Queens County in 2007 for Murder, Attempted Robbery, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
