Town of Big Flats holds Bicentennial Celebration
BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Town of Big Flats celebrated a big birthday, holding its Bicentennial Ceremony Saturday morning.
Roughly a hundred people gathered at the Big Flats Community Center for a celebration full of food, youth activities, and live music. A dedication ceremony was held to honor the lasting impact Big Flats has had in Chemung County.
“It’s not just me, it’s the staff here,” Ed Fairbrother, Town Supervisor of Big Flats, said. “It's working as a team; all of us coming together for what's best for the town of Big Flats.”
Big Flats has been reaching out to private agencies for help with bringing projects to the area. Bringing a developing engineer on board continues to attract developers who help bring these projects to town more quickly.
“It's not going to take months and sometimes years,” Fairbrother said. “We have developers now that are coming to us. They want to build here in Big Flats; They want to be part of this.”
Big Flats took Saturday's ceremony as an opportunity to announce another project coming next year. Lisa Dowd, a board director at the Big Flats Historical Society Museum, says the project will honor veterans from Big Flats.
“I think the Hometown Heroes Banner Program is a wonderful way for us to honor veterans and showcase their banners throughout the town,” Dowd said. “I think you'll find most people throughout the community feel the same way.”
