HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - It was a special afternoon at Horseheads High School. Eleven student-athletes were recognized as they signed their National Letters of Intent to compete at the Division-I and Division-II levels.

Three boys lacrosse players put pen to paper on Tuesday.

Casey Klossner signed to Manhattan College. Klossner has been on the varsity program since his freshman year. He was a 1st-Team All-League Face-Off specialist in 2021 and has also tallied 301 career ground balls, 324 face-off wins, a career winning percentage of 65%, and 68 career points.

"I know they have a great business program and I was really looking for that, and when I went on my visit I could tell it felt like home," said Klossner. "I know I'm going into a great team next year and I'm really excited for the guys that I know on it and for the guys that I'm going to meet."

Patrick Carpenter gets set to play for St. Bonaventure University. Patrick has also been on varsity since his freshman year when he was named 2nd-Team All-League Attack as a 9th grader and 1st-Team All-League Attack as a junior. Carpenter has racked up 101 career goals with 70 assists.

"They're an up-and-coming program, they're only a few years old and they're trying to build something special that I really want to be a part of so I'm excited," said Carpenter.

Matthew Baker signed to compete for Le Moyne College. Baker has been on varsity since his sophomore season and has 31 career caused turnovers as a defender.

"It feels amazing to sign with everybody I've grown up with and to have three guys from my team all signing together, it's awesome," said Baker. "It's an excellent program both academically and athletically and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Horseheads volleyball standout, Taylor Malone signed to compete for Kutztown University. Malone is a two-time All-State selection and is a STAC Player of the Year and First-Team All-STAC selection the last three seasons.

"They had my major which is Marine Biology and I got to know the coach really well," said Malone. "I went and visited the campus and I just really fell in love with it there."

Eva Koratsis signed to play softball for Fordham University. Koratsis was an All-State selection as a junior and has played a major role in the Blue Raider success over the last few seasons.

"It just felt like home," said Koratsis. "The team was like family and I knew it was right for me the minute I was there."

Three Horseheads girls lacrosse players signed to the collegiate level. Jordyn Robinson is set to compete for Winthrop University. Robinson has been on the varsity team for three years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society.

"I really loved the family atmosphere at Winthrop" said Robinson. "It kind of reminded me of my lacrosse team here at Horseheads."

Abbey Kamas signed to play lacrosse for Daemen University. Kamas has played lacrosse since youth league and was a member of last season's Section IV Champion team. She is also a member of the New Visions Honor Academy, National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society.

"I loved the coach and the campus and it just felt right going there and deciding" said Kamas. "I really liked it, and it's just a great experience and opportunity."

Erin Christmas is the third girls' lacrosse player to sign to the collegiate level as she will compete for Saint Anselm College. Erin is a four-year varsity player where she's won two Section Championships with the Blue Raiders. She also gives back to the program, volunteering to referee the youth league, is a camp counselor at the Varsity H camp, and helped run modified open gyms last winter.

"There's an incredible balance there of challenging athletics and academics and I'm excited to challenge myself on the field but continue to further my education at a high level," said Christmas.

Elise Johnson signed to continue her swimming career at Wagner College. Elise has competed at various levels from club swim league meets, to national swimming with her club team, and competing in the New York State Swimming and Diving meet as an alternate for Horseheads in the relays.

"It was just the environment and the people, it felt like home and it felt like a place where I could definitely continue everything that I've started here in Horseheads later on in my life," said Johnson.

Lastly, Nate Tenbus signed to play soccer for Gannon University. Tebus has been on the varsity program since he was a freshman, and has been a key piece of Horseheads' success where they have gone 32-17-8 while he's been with the program. Tebus has won Section IV and STAC West Titles with the Blue Raiders and he was a two-time STAC West All-Star. Nate has been an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete is entire soccer career.

"It's a perfect distance, far enough away, close enough" said Tenbus. "I love the area out there in Erie, Pennsylvania. I got along with the coaching staff pretty well and I look forward to it."
