Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrates Public Art Mural in Elmira
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - A Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held today in Elmira Celebrating the Transformational Public Art Mural called "Harbinger" by Artist Tori Burdick.
It is part of the Community Arts of Elmira's Infinite Canvas project effort throughout Elmira.
The mural was painted and completed late last year.
Burdick had been looking for a wall to paint on all of last summer and had many different designs in mind. The images she settled on include a redwing black bird, a river bird, and a favorite from her childhood.
"This was just an image that popped into my mind," said Burdick. "I knew that given the location, it needed to be something very powerful, that had a very strong direct impact, so that's why I chose to do a closeup figure. The face is very recognizable even from a distance. The redwing blackbird is something I wanted to put in related back to the nature of this area. We're right next to the river, it's a river bird, and it's also one of my favorites from growing up in the area."
Another mural ribbon cutting will be held on May 3rd at 11:00am celebrating the Transformational Public Art Mural Fishing Kids by Crystal Parks & Family.
