1 dead after 5 shot in downtown Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WENY)-- A deadly shooting in downtown Syracuse overnight, leaves one person dead after five people were shot.
Police Chief Kenton Buckner and Mayor Ben Walsh held a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
They say the shooting took place overnight just after midnight on the 300 block of South Clinton Street in Armory Square.
Chief Buckner says a 24-year-old man, Akok Lual was killed. The other individuals were taken to the hospital where one is listed in critical condition. Three other individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The victims are between the ages of 21 and 25.
Mayor Ben Walsh says this shooting is senseless and will not be tolerated in the city of Syracuse.
"For these individuals to willingly get into a conflict in the middle of a crowd, with police officers feet away, and decide that's it's a good idea to pull out a gun and start shooting with no regard for the safety of anyone around them, police officers, innocent bystanders at a bar, at a restaurant having a good time. It's crazy," Walsh said!
Police are investigating this incident and have canvassed the area for evidence. At this time no arrests have been made.
