CORNING, NY (WENY) -- A popular summer kickoff event will return to Corning in May, according to the Gaffer District.

The organization announced the in-person return of the annual GlassFest event, which will take place this year from May 26 to 29th. The event features live music, craft and food vendors, activities for children, fireworks, and more.

The event will kick off with a glass ribbon cutting at the Corning Museum of Glass on May 26th at 5:30PM.

“GlassFest is a shining example of what makes our Corning downtown special and unique. The energy and vibrancy of GlassFest weekend will be such a welcome return to normalcy after a long two years," said Christine Sharkey, president of Corning Enterprises.

"It is going to be a truly magnificent weekend in downtown Corning, filled with fun for the whole family, and we absolutely wouldn't be able to make it happen without our incredibly supportive sponsors," said Coleen Fabrizi, executive director of Corning's Gaffer District. "Whether folks are returning or planning to discover for the first time what makes GlassFest irresistible, we are so very excited to welcome everyone"

Scott T. Heffner, senior vice president and director of marketing at Chemung Canal Trust Company, added, “We are thrilled that 2022 marks the return of GlassFest, Corning’s premier event showcasing the artisans, museums, restaurants and retail shops that make our region so special. The streets of Corning will once again be filled with residents, families and visitors during Memorial Day Weekend, and we sincerely thank the Gaffer District for all of their hard work. We look forward to helping kick off the summer season by celebrating all that makes the Southern Tier so special.”

This year's event will also feature an observance for the 50th anniversary of the Flood of 1972, as well as the return of the Rock the Park music series, and Memorial Day salute.
