Chemung County Receiving Mobile Broadband Boost
CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) - Chemung County's mobile broadband network is soon expanding.
AT&T has added a new cell site to give residents and first responders faster and more reliable wireless service. The new site boost coverage and capacity in and around the county including large areas of Elmira.
AT&T says it has built multiple new cell sites in Chemung County since 2020 and has committed nearly $1.6 billion towards New York wireless networks.
These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet.
In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked just for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14's added coverage and capacity.
