NYSSWA releases small-school All-State Football teams
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - The New York State Sportswriters Association released the small-school portion of the All-State Football teams on Wednesday afternoon, as many student-athletes from the Southern Tier made the lists.
In 8-Man football, Spencer-Van Etten/Candor's Devin Beach was named Co-Player of the Year. He shares the award with Red Jacket's Kyle Damore. Beach was a major part of SVEC's undefeated season where they captured a Section IV Title over Groton and a Regional Title over Spackenkill.
Other local 8-Man football players that were named All-State include SVEC's Nick Thomas, Hunter Haynes, and Elliot Walter who were named to the First Team. Tyler Stahl was named Honorable Mention for the Eagles. The full 8-Man All-State list can be found here.
In Class D, Tioga running back, Emmett Wood was named Player of the Year. Wood also made First-Team All-State in 2019. Wood was dominant in the run game and led the Tigers to the NYSPHSAA Class D State Title over Moriah at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse where he scored two touchdowns in the win.
Also in Class D, Tioga's Josh Snell, Gavin Fisher, and Gavin Godfrey were named to the First Team. Chris Walsh and Isaac Peterson were both named to the Second Team. The full Class D All-State list can be found here.
In Class C, Haverling's A.J. Brotz was named Co-Player of the Year along with James Musso from Skaneateles. Brotz had 566 yards receiving with 10 touchdowns, as well as 402 rushing yards with 9 touchdowns on the ground. The Rams made back-to-back runs to the Section V Class C Title game.
Waverly's Joey Tomasso and Ryan Clark, Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour's Travon Jones and Daniel Ely, and Haverling's Diallo Wallace were named Second Team All-State in Class C. Waverly's Jay Pipher and Ty Beeman, as well as Hornell's Bobby Ranger made the Third Team. Lastly, Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour's Cameron Holland and Waverly's Brady Blauvelt were named Honorable Mention. The full Class C All-State list can be found here.
