Spencer-Van Etten SD returns to in-person Tuesday

UPDATED 1/10 (2:30 P.M.) -- Spencer-Van Etten School District will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 11th. In a letter sent to district families, Superintendent Diahann Hesler explains that officials have re-reviewed COVID cases and can allow in-person operations.
However, there are still concerns about the weather conditions.
"At this time, we have enough substitutes to cover staff shortages," Hesler writes.
The district says it is still monitoring a significant wind-chill, which may result in officials transitioning into a two-hour delay.
Superintendent Hesler tells families she understands the past few days haven't been easy and she appreciates the ability to roll to virtual learning and back again.

SPENCER, NY (WENY) -- The Spencer-Van Etten School District has gone virtual, due to growing COVID-19 cases in the community.
In an email sent to families, the Spencer-Van Etten School District said it will remain virtual at least through Monday, January 10th. Students and staff went virtual starting Friday the 7th. The district has not posted anything publicly on its website of social media pages about the change. The district had previously posted online that it was participating in the Test to Stay program, which allows asymptomatic students continue attending school in person after a COVID-19 exposure, with frequent testing.
The district says it will look at the COVID-19 data regarding a plan for Tuesday. The district crosses both and Chemung Counties; Chemung County currently has over 1,700 positive cases, and Tioga County has 571.
