URBANA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The alleged driver of an ATV was injured and his brother, the passenger, was killed following a rollover crash Wednesday in the Town of Urbana.
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard says responded to the area of Reservoir Hill Road in the Town of Urbana to investigate a reported ATV rollover crash.
Deputies reportedly found two men in a gulley with a crashed ATV. Deputies, an investigator (three of which are also EMTs) and a Trooper responded into the gulley to assess and treat the operator and the passenger.
The men were in different locations, separate from the ATV. Both men were down a steep embankment, approximately 100 feet below the trail surface.
The passenger of the ATV, Michael L. Drake, age 59, was reported dead on-scene.
The alleged operator of the ATV, Henry R. Drake, age 62 and brother to the deceased, received life-saving treatment from the investigator and deputies. He reportedly had cuts to the head and leg and with the assistance of the Hammondsport Volunteer Fire Department, was rope-lifted from the scene and subsequently airlifted to a trauma center for treatment.
The crash is still under investigation.
Sheriff Allard thanks the New York State Police and the Hammondsport and Pulteney Volunteer Fire Departments for their assistance in this incident.
