Attention early birds, you will not want to miss this! A partial lunar eclipse will begin at the wee hour of 2:19 AM and end at 5:47 AM. During this time the earth’s shadow, also known as the “umbra”, will block the sun’s light which usually reflects off the moon.

This is a “partial” eclipse and not a “maximum” eclipse so the moon will not go directly through the umbra. It will, however, look like the earth’s shadow got hungry and took a bite right out of the moon.

For a maximum viewing, you’ll want to keep your eyes on the sky at 4:03 AM.

Make sure to bundle up during this time. Temperatures will be in the low 30s with lake effect snow showers likely before 2 AM. Full disclosure, you will have to patiently await for a break in the clouds to get a clear glimpse of the partial eclipse, as there will be partly cloudy skies during this time. When the perfect moment arises, be sure to snap a picture and send it our way! We would love to see it!
