Elmira man who fled trial caught in Bradford Co. after high-speed chase
BRADFORD COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man who fled his trial in Chemung County in October, was caught in Bradford County after a high-speed chase last week.
According to the Sayre Police Department, officers there were dispatched to assist the Elmira Police Department in a chase headed toward the Pennsylvania State line on Interstate-86 around 4 p.m. Friday. Elmira Police were chasing a Toyota sedan, and the person driving the car was believed to be armed and dangerous in connection to an armed robbery.
After reaching a high rate of speed, and almost hitting other cars, police say the driver traveled to Athens Township. There, the driver briefly stopped the car, and a passenger ran into the woods. Roughly a mile later, officers stopped the car and took the driver in custody.
Police say the car was driven by 18-year-old Vanessa A. Troccia, and her passenger, who ran into the woods, was Courtney P. Cade. Police say Courtney P. Cade is Vanessa Troccia's father. As WENY News reported, Cade fled the Chemung County Courthouse during jury deliberations. According to the Chemung District Attorney’s office, Cade was arrested for an incident on June 11, 2020 when he and another person allegedly broke into a home on Brand Street, pulled a gun and threatened the people inside the home.
The jury found Cade guilty, and once sentenced, he faces a potential maximum sentence of 25 years on the burglary and robbery charges and up to 15 years on the weapons charges.
After the Friday chase came to an end, officers say they requested the assistance of the Bradford County Drone team. During the search for Cade, a drone equipped with an infrared camera spotted Cade and he taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police.
Both Cade and Troccia were sent to the Bradford County Correctional Facility. Troccia was charged with attemping to elude police, and bail was set at $50,000.
