New law expands types of vaccines licensed pharmacies can administer in New York State
ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) – Licensed pharmacies in New York State can now administer additional vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to patients 18 and older.
Under a new law signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, licensed pharmacists will be able to administer vaccines for Hepatitis A and B, HPV, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella. This means you can go to a licensed pharmacy, rather than make a doctor’s appointment, to get these vaccines.
"Immunizations are the best tool at our disposal for protecting public health and we must implement every sensible measure to make vaccines widely available," Governor Hochul said. "With this new law, we are expanding the locations where New Yorkers can go to get vaccines to protect their own health - and the health of their communities."
Studies show pharmacist-provided immunizations increase overall vaccination rates. Under current law, pharmacists in New York have already been able to administer vaccines for influenza, COVID-19, pneumococcal, acute herpes zoster, meningococcal, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis disease as well as medications required for emergency treatment of anaphylaxis.
