Elmira Police Investigating Home Invasion Robbery, Shooting

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira police say two people were shot during a home invasion robbery Friday night at a home on Elmira's south side.
Police say they responded to a 9-1-1 call around 11PM Friday evening, where the caller said he had been shot by an intruder in his home on South Main Street. Officers arrived to find two gunshot victims - the resident and a male suspect.
According to the investigation, three intruders with at least one gun forced their way into the home. During a struggle, the resident was shot. As the struggle continued, a second resident of the home fired a gun at the one of the suspects, who was hit. The other two intruders then fled from the scene.
The two gunshot victims were treated at local hospitals before being transferred to a regional medical center, according to police. Both are expected to survive.
