Corning Museum of Glass creates ‘Bull-in-a- China-shop’ video with Red Bull
CORNING, NY (WENY) - The Corning Museum of Glass partnered with Red Bull this week to put together the ‘Bull-in-a- China-shop’ video. The purpose of the collaboration was to showcase the parallels in innovation within art and athletics.
The video first features Red Bull athlete Aaron Colton rebuilding a motorbike fit to ride in the museum. The motorsport athlete turned his combustion dirt bike into a supermoto hybrid bike to prevent glass exhibits from breaking during his ride. Colton’s ride through the museum can also be seen in the video, where he maneuvers around a gaffer creating a red bull out of glass.
The museum’s Senior Manager of Hot Glass Programs, Eric Meek, worked with Red Bull on this project. He expressed how this project adds to the heritage of the museum.
“We're always looking to innovate, Meek said. “This is just adding to the tradition of museum really being forward looking.”
He continued by drawing comparisons between glass and motorsports innovations.
“We talk about innovations; we talk about how glass is a critical component to modern daily life and technology,” Meek said. “I think there's a parallel there between the innovation of an electric vehicle and the way glass innovates.”
Meek highlighted the importance of having both groups collaborate by emphasizing their respective levels of expertise.
“Aaron Colton is a talented athlete; he's at the pinnacle of what he does,” Meek said. “The other thing that we highlight is the fact that the glassmakers who work here are the most talented glassmakers in the country and it was great to highlight that contrast. Very talented rider, amazingly talented artists.”
