BATH, NY (WENY) ---

Students across the region, including students from Corning-Painted Post, Haverling, Ithaca, Pine Valley, and Cortland high schools, participated in a two-week long program in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The program, held virtually this year, is designed to get students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Five students from Steuben County were selected to participate. Including Bath's Sydney Burns, a senior at Haverling High School, "I worked with awesome mentors and got to meet some scientists... right now I’m planning on going into engineering, I would love to work in an environmental field.”

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a U.S. Department of Energy research facility, and this year the program hosted students from the 12-state, Appalachian Region.
