State Police identify suspect after trooper shot in Deposit

UPDATE (6/24/21): New York State Police have released more information, including the identity of the suspect, as well as the name of the trooper who was shot.
Troopers say 44-year-old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit was arraigned Thursday morning on one count of attempted murder in the first degree. He was sent to the Broome County Jail.
The trooper who was shot was identified as Trooper Ryan Thorp. He was shot in the arm and underwent surgery overnight; state police say he is in stable condition.
Trooper Thorp has been a member of the New York State Police for three years.
DEPOSIT, N.Y. (WENY) - A New York state trooper was shot while responding to a domestic dispute in Deposit. The incident happened around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night after troopers were called to Sunrise Terrace.
A suspect is in custody. State Police say the public is not in danger.
This is the second time a state trooper has been shot in that region in the last two weeks. Earlier this month, trooper was shot in the hip while responding to a welfare check nearby in Colesville.
