BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) – Chemung County will be holding a free rabies vaccination clinic in conjunction with the SPCA on Saturday, June 19.

The clinic is open to cats, dogs and ferrets three months or older, and is happening from 10:00 – 12:00 at the county’s mass vaccination site, located at 17 Aviation Drive in Big Flats.

According to NYS law, all cats, dogs and ferrets four months old or older must be vaccinated to prevent rabies. Owners who do not comply with this law could be fined up to $200. Chemung County officials say free rabies clinics are provided at least every four months.

Pets must be on a leash or in a carrier and under control of an adult. Dog and cat owners must bring proof of a previous rabies vaccination if they want to receive the three-year certification for their pets.

Owners of multiple dogs are recommended to bring their pets in one at a time; once you wait in line for one pet, you can bring your other dogs in to get vaccinated without having to wait in line again.

Cat owners who don’t have carriers should talk to clinic staff before taking their cat out of their car.

Pet owners who need special assistance could call 737-2019 to register a few days before the clinic.
