Pedestrian killed after being hit by car in Enfield

ENFIELD, N.Y. (WENY) – A person was killed after being hit by a car in Enfield Wednesday evening.
Around 7:45 p.m., Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Mecklenburg Road near Halseyville Road for reports of a car hitting a pedestrian. After arriving, police found the pedestrian dead in the road and a 2005 Ford Escape with front-end damage.
Police say the investigation and witness statements showed the Escape was traveling west on Mecklenburg Road when it hit the person who had walked into the road.
Names are being withheld at this time as police continue investigating the incident. Police have not said if the driver will face any charges.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Enfield Volunteer Fire Company.
