WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WENY) – Tops Friendly Markets will now offer over-the-counter COVID-19 at-home testing kits.

The kit, calling the QuickVue At-Home OTC COVID-19 Test, is made by Quidel and distributed by McKesson. Everything you need to test yourself for the virus is included in the kit.

The test was issued an Emergency Use Authorization by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for anyone older than two. It includes two tests, which should be used over two to three days with at least 24 hours and no more than 36 hours between tests.  

Users will use the nasal swab to collect a sample, and then place it in a tube of reagent solution before removing it and inserting a test strip. Results can typically be seen in 10 minutes. You should then wait at least 24 hours, but no more than 36 hours, to do the second test.

Positive results should be followed up with a doctor.

In a clinical study, the QuickVue At- Home OTC COVID-19 Test identified positive cases 83.5% of the time, and identified negative cases 99.2% of the time.
