Owego PD: Man arrested after assaulting grandmother
OWEGO, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Owego man was arrested and is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly assaulted his grandmother.
According to the Owego Police Department, 28-year-old Scott T. Winston was arrested on Sunday night.
Officers say they were responding to an assault in progress on Woodlawn Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Police say Winston assaulted his 76-year-old grandmother in her own home, and also violated a order of protection.
Winston was charged with criminal contempt and assault of an elderly person, both felonies. He's also facing misdemeanor charges of menacing, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.
Police say this is Winston's 3rd arrest for criminal contempt for violation of the order of protection for offenses against his grandmother in the last 6 months. Winston was brought before Judge John Schaffer of Newark Valley presiding. Bail was recommended to be set at $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond. According to police, Winston was sent to the Tioga County Jail on $500 cash bail, or $1,000 bond.
