ITHACA, N.Y.(WENY)-- In February of 2020 a minority-owned nutrition company started in Ithaca and has been excelling in spite of the pandemic. 

Layer Origin is a locally sourced, locally based, locally owned nutrition company that was started by two by a Cornell Food Scientist graduate. The goal of the company is to create safer and more effective products for improving gut health, reducing cholesterol, controlling blood sugar bolstering the immune system, and aiding in weight management. The company is based in Ithaca at the Langmuir Lab on the Cornell Business and Tech Park campus. 

Beau Berman, co-founder of Layer Origins said starting a company during a pandemic has been very challenging but they have been able to sell 20,000 units. 

“ It is tough to literally start selling products for the first time during an unprecedented global pandemic,” said Berman.  

Berman also said that the company is expanding and plans to have eighty new products by 2021. 

“Not only are we thriving as a New York-based small business, but we are also expanding and deepening our regional roots as we build out our own production line,” said Berman.
