Watkins Glen Central School District moving to full remote learning this week

Watkins Glen, NY (WENY) -- The Watkins Glen Central School District is moving to full remote learning starting Monday, November 2nd follow two positive cases of COVID-19 in the district community.
In a letter to parents, the district said they were notified that two people, a staff member in the elementary school and a high school student had tested positive for COVID-19. Through contract tracing the district said the county health department found eleven additional staff members had also been identified to be quarantined this week.
They said, “To provide the safest possible environment, we will need to move to a remote instruction model for this entire week. All instructions will be provided to students at home this week. We are scheduled to return to on-site instruction on Monday, November 9th”.
The district superintendent apologized for the disruption this may cause to families and that more information will be shared by the child's teacher or school principal.
For families that have already signed up for free lunches and home deliveries, they'll receive their five days' worth of means as usual on Wednesday, November 4th. Families in the Blue Cohort can get two days' worth of meals this week, Monday afternoon. It would make up for the meals students would have had this week at school. To get two days' worth of meals sent to your home on November 2nd you're asked to call Rob Cole at (607)535-3214 before 9:00 AM.
