PULTENEY, N.Y. (WENY) – A Steuben County woman has been charged with murdering her husband after he was found dead in a home in the Town of Pulteney Thursday morning.

New York State Police say they responded to the home, which is on Gloades Corners Road, for reports of a dead man. As WENY News reported, troopers deemed the man's dead “suspicious” and began interviewing local residents.

The victim was identified as 63-year-old John Ballam.

Friday, State Police announced 57-year-old Sherri Ballam, has been arrested and charged with second degree murder.

According to the Town of Pulteney's website, John was the town dog control officer and Sherri was the deputy officer.

Troopers say the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released at a later time.
