Ithaca Police release more information after man shot and killed Wednesday night

ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Ithaca Police have provided more information in the homicide investigation after a man was shot and killed on West State Street.
According to Police Chief Dennis Nayor, the incident happened Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m. At that time, officers responded to a call of shots fired on West Green Street. Shortly after, a victim was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the 500 block of West State Street.
Police identified the victim as 45-year-old John Ray Lawton from Ithaca. They say next of kin have been notified and the investigation is "actively underway".
