CHEMUNG COUNTY: 40 new COVID-19 cases, 151 people currently battling coronavirus

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Friday morning, health officials in Chemung County reported there are 40 new coronavirus cases. Currently, 151 people have COVID-19.
The New York State Regional Dashboard shows the Southern Tier region has a 1.1% positive tests per day in a 7-day rolling average for new infections.
When examining new cases per 100,000 New Yorkers (as opposed to percentage), over a 7-day rolling average, the Southern Tier is listed as having 12.57. That's the highest on the chart. The second-highest region for new cases is Mid-Hudson with 8.84.
"Cases of the virus are still increasing in Chemung County," the release on the County Health Department's Facebook page reads.
"Please be careful when going out. Unmasked, not properly social distanced, prolonged close contact at a variety of venues appears to be driving our current spike.
According to the chart breaking down how many cases are in each municipality, the City of Elmira remains the highest with 172 cases. The Town of Horseheads is second-highest with 68 positive cases, followed by the Town of Southport with 48, then the Village of Horseheads with 43.
The Town of Ashland has the least with 3 cases there.
