10 new COVID-19 cases in Chemung County linked back to Lighthouse Baptist Church Cluster

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – The Chemung County Health Department says the county has 10 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday morning, and that all of the new cases are associated with the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Horseheads.
As WENY News reported, the cluster linked back to the church was first identified Tuesday, September 8. Since then, dozens of COVID-19 cases in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Oneida, Tioga and Broome Counties have been linked back to the church.
According to the County Health Department, the church has supplied officials with “limited information to assist in the investigation”.
Of the new cases reported Tuesday, three are in the hospital; health officials add they have received information on “additional cases” and these are currently under investigation.
On September 13, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Health, the Chemung County Health Department conducted a testing event at the Villa Serene Apartment Complex in Elmira Heights. 140 people were tested, six came back positive and two results are still pending.
As the investigation into the Lighthouse Baptist Church cluster continues, the County Health Department urges everyone to cooperate with investigation efforts and to continue wearing masks and social distancing.
