Ithaca College Football Prepares for Training During a Pandemic

ITHACA, N.Y.(WENY)-- Ithaca College is getting ready to reopen and the football team is still unsure about what the season will look like training wise.
Even though the football season has been cancelled, keeping up on training is a must and Junior Andrew Testani is worried that with all of this downtime he could lose some of the skills he acquired through hard work over the years.
“I haven't taken a live rep since November at this point because spring ball got cancelled, we got sent home right before we were supposed to start our spring practices, at this point it is looking like we won't get any real action until September, October, “ said Testani.
Even though Testani is planning to come back to campus as soon as next week he had no idea what the training was going to look like and the same can be said for head coach Dan Swanstrom.
“We don't know, all the questions that you have are all the same questions I have and we are just waiting to get the information on how we can do it,” said Swanstrom.
Coach Swanstrom said he felt horrible for the seniors on the team that are going to be missing out on their last season and he said not all of them will be able to capitalize on this shortcoming.
“A lot of these guys had a lot of plans before this hit and this was kind of the crescendo of their career to play a senior year,” said Swanstrom. “ Some of them will be able to figure it out and maximize their full ability and play at their full capacity and some won't and those conversations are pretty difficult.”
