City of Binghamton Implements Nightly Curfew

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WENY) - Binghamton Mayor Richard David announced a nightly curfew for the city on Tuesday, effective immediately.
The curfew will require residents to stay home between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., until further notice. Exceptions will be made in the case of an emergency, or if required by work. The announcement comes after a positive test for the coronavirus in Broome County was confirmed on Tuesday.
Mayor David issued a statement, reading in part, "With a new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Broome County, and following discussions with Binghamton public safety officials, we are taking the next step necessary to slow the spread of the virus and keep our community as safe as possible."
The release also reads, "During this curfew, all residents will be required to remain in their homes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. except for emergencies, or if they are required to work by their employer. This will allow the Binghamton Police Department to more effectively enforce limits on social gatherings as set forth by the Governor. As a community with a large population of college students, Binghamton has a responsibility to ensure it is enforcing limits on social gatherings by all residents."
