Spring Returns Early This Week

Lately, we have been talking a lot about the cold air and snow potential for the Twin Tiers, but now it's time to switch our thought process. Now, we are tracking warmer air that will move into the region as we begin the work week. However, this milder pattern will be coming with some extra baggage, in terms of rainfall. High pressure will move off the Carolina coastline on Sunday and over the open Atlantic by Monday. This will, in turn, usher milder air into the region and we will see highs in the lower 50s and near 50 from Monday through Wednesday. This setup also will deliver the chances for rain showers during that time period. High pressure over the open Atlantic will surge Gulf of Mexico moisture into the Eastern US, and this will allow two waves of low pressure to pick up that moisture and deliver some shower chances. We continue to keep our eyes on the chance for heavy rain to make its way into the Twin Tiers, but that outcome is losing traction among models and as of now we are expecting rainfall amounts, through Wednesday, to be near half an inch with locally higher amounts.
