Elmira, NY (WENY) -- A 39-year-old Millerton, Pennsylvania man was arraigned Saturday night, after punching an Elmira Police Officer.

An Elmira police officer was conducting a routine traffic stop on a 2003 Ford Mustang, in the 400 block section of Mt. Zoar Street. While running the driver's license it was determined that Patrick Seeley's license was suspended multiple times by New York State.

During their investigation, the Elmira Police officer called for backup. The officer then asked Seeley to step out of the car for questioning. During Seeley's interview, he allegedly punched one of the investigating officers in the face and began resisting being restrained. During the altercation, Seeley was taken to the ground where he put another officer in a chokehold. One of the responding officers utilized pepper spray to prevent Seeley from suffocating the officer in the chokehold.

Seeley was ultimately taken into police custody. One officer was taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center to be treated for lacerations.

Seeley's car was impounded and it was later determined that the vehicle had several traffic violations including not being registered. Elmira Police officers also located some methamphetamine inside the car as well.

Seeley was charged with 2nd degree Attempted Assault, Resisting Arrest, 7th-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 2nd-degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, among other charges.

Seeley was arraigned in Elmira City Court and was released pending a future court date.
