Eric Smith Denied Parole for 10th Time
ALBANY, NY (WENY) -- The Savona man serving a life sentence for the 1993 murder of a child will remain in prison, after his most recent parole hearing.
The New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision confirms to WENY News the parole board has denied release for Eric Smith. Smith, now 39, was 13-years-old when he killed four-year-old Derrick Robie of Savona. Smith is serving a nine years to life prison sentence, and was eligible for parole this month.
The parole board voted again this time around to deny release, and scheduled a future parole hearing date for October 2021. This marks the 10th time Smith has been denied parole.
Smith is currently serving his sentence at Woodbourne Correctional Facility, a medium security prison in Sullivan County.
