Corning Museum celebrates 20 years of 2300 degrees

Corning, NY (WENY) -- The Corning Museum of Glass hosted hundreds of people on Thursday as part of a special birthday celebration. Thursday marked 20 year of hosting 2300 degrees. It's a birthday that will be all year long. Each month will have it's own theme, starting with "Toast to 20".
Music was shaking the crystals at the Corning Museum of Glass. People could be seen drinking and dancing the night away like it was the year 2000. People from all over the Southern Tier descended into the Crystal City to help celebrate 20 years of 2300. The auditorium was open for LaVay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers. Over at the Hot Shop more music could be heard. In the Hot Shop music was played in the background as world renowned artist Kristina Logan showed off her skills.
Steve Gibbs says that 2300 started as a way to get people inside the museum initially.
“2300 degrees started as a way to introduce people to come to our museum and share it with the community.” said Gibbs.
2300 has grown ever since its inception.
Gibbs also notes that the museum always get a huge turnout.
John Lewis has been coming to 2300 for over a decade.
“We got family friends, local wineries, Seneca, Keuka Lake, so it's fun to come to be able to taste and eat and have a good time.” said Lewis.
When Lewis was asked “What brings him back?”
“You get to go through the museum, see all the art, all the camaraderie, all the good stuff.” said Lewis.
Their 20th birthday party featured over 20 local wineries and of course glass making, but the party will continue into February.
“If you haven't seen the new series about glass on Netflix called 'Blown Away, we have one of the finalist that's going to be here.” said Gibbs.
Next month's 2300 degrees is slated for February 20th. The theme for next month will be "Fire and Ice".
