Officer Mary Orsaio named as newly-established Ithaca Police Department LGBTQ Liaison

ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Officer Mary Orsaio has been named as the newly-established LGBTQ Liaison for the Ithaca Police Department (IPD).

The position was created with the intent of strengthening the relationships between the LGBTQ community and IPD.

According to a press release, the liaison will be charged with establishing an ongoing dialogue by hearing directly from community members about concerns, and working collaboratively with the community to identify solutions. The liaison will also work to educate about recommended safety measures and available resources.

In the position of LGBTQ Liaison, Officer Orsaio will also assist in productive dialog with patrol, Community Policing, and various investigative unites concerning LGBTQ crimes through diversity and sensitivity training.
