ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) - A lawsuit that challenges a New York immigrant licenses law has been dismissed.

The law allows immigrants without legal documents to seek out driver's license in the state. However, the lawsuit that challenges this law was dismissed on Friday by a federal judge.

This lawsuit seeks to block the roll-out of the law on December 14th. The lawsuit was brought by Republican Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns. A judge says Kearns failed to show that he would be harmed under the law.

Supporters of the law are arguing that licenses would help better provide work, education and housing for immigrants. However, opponents say licenses "shouldn't be given to people who are in violation of federal immigration rules."
