CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man was arrested during a routine traffic stop when law enforcement found his blood alcohol content was 0.13%. The legal limit is 0.08%.

New York State Police stopped the vehicle getting on Interstate 86 in the Town of Chemung.

The driver, William Moharter, 61, was unable to locate the registration to his vehicle.

Police say he also had slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol.

Moharter was unable to complete roadside sobriety tests.

Following a test of his blood alcohol content, Moharter was arrested for DWI and issued traffic violations.

He was released to a sober third party, and is set to appear in Town of Chemung court at a later date.
