ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Election season is right around the corner and one local resident kicked off her campaign for an Elmira City Council position this evening. Jackie Wilson, who has 40 years of experience as a teacher, counselor, and social worker kicked off her campaign today at the Ill Eagle Taproom in downtown Elmira.  At today's event, many local residents attended and raised questions to Jackie and they ranged from increasing the amount of bicycle lanes to issues on climate change.

We spoke with Jackie on why she has decided to run, "District five is where I live, I represent constituents on the south-side of the city. I've lived here my whole life. I am very excited about the things that are happening in Elmira. I'm a big cheerleader for Elmira, I think it's a great place to live, and I just want to be a part of all these good things that are happening in Elmira because I know a lot of people have a lot of concerns," said  Jackie Wilson.

We also spoke with Jackie on why she chose the Ill Eagle Taproom to kick off her campaign.

Jackie said, "I just thought that this showcases what Elmira is doing, to really revitalize downtown, and this is a historic building. They have done so much to preserve the historical integrity. So I just though this would be the perfect place." 

She is eager for this years elections and is ready to get things going in her district.
