Two more local fire departments receive grants from Assistance to Firefighters program

WASHINGTON (WENY) -- Local first responders are continuing to receive support from the federal government.
This time, Chemung and Tompkins Counties are benefiting from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
Federal assistance has been trickling in for Southern Tier fire departments.
The City of Elmira Fire Department will receive $49,640 to replace old vehicle extrication equipment. This is used in hazardous materials incidents, and helps rescue people from confined spaces.
The Brooktondale Fire District will receive $76,761.90 to replace old self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.
