New go-kart track opens in Schuyler County
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Trackside in Watkins Glen offers a wide variety of things to do. People can race on two different go-kart tracks, as well as try out things like a virtual reality experience, a laser shooting range, and tactical laser tag. Not to mention a dog park and a restaurant.
"Around September of last year is when we started all the renovation work and it's become really a passionate project for us," said Trackside owner, Scott Cornell. "It just keeps going, and going, and going, and I don't think we're going to stop. Every year we're going to try to add more."
As for the go-karts, Cornell says Trackside offers visitors a racing experience unlike any other.
"The kind of karts we're running came from Europe originally," said Cornell. "We actually placed an order for them, and we found it way more cost effective and time effective, and from my background history in racing and automotive, to just build them ourselves. We could build a better product that isn't offered to purchase in the states."
While Trackside offers a lot for people to enjoy, the owners say they're not done expanding.
"We're going to continue to add different attractions and amenities here," said Cornell. "We'll be opening a brewery here probably late spring, we're hoping. The name of the brewery is going to be called 'Brew Works Beer Co.'. "That'll allow us to be open four seasons."
Trackside will be hosting a car show this weekend with 607 Motorsports, complete with live entertainment and a barbecue. If you'd like to learn more about the free event, you can visit Trackside's Facebook page here.
