BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- A bridge in Steuben County is now dedicated to fallen New York State Trooper, Nicholas Clark. The bridge on Interstate 86, which crosses over State Route 415, will forever honor the trooper who lost his life while responding to a call in the town of Erwin in 2018. For State Police, it's a fitting tribute.

"It keeps his memory alive," said Troop E Commander, New York Troop E Commander, Major Eric Laughton. "It reminds us that he paid the ultimate price and Nick was a giver. By having this bridge dedicated in his name, he's still giving because when people drive under that bridge, and see that sign, they're going to be inspired to keep on giving."

Congressman Tom Reed, Senator Tom O'Mara, and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano were in attendance for the unveiling at the Troop E barracks in Bath, where Clark was stationed. Congressman Reed says Clark's memory will live on for generations to come with this dedication.

"It's an ongoing part of his legacy," said New York's 23rd District congressman, Tom Reed. "He's still serving, as he served us on July 2nd, 2018. He's serving today and he'll serve with this sign."

The sign is brought to life by legislation put forth by Senator O'Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano earlier this year.

"I was very honored to sponsor this legislation along with Assemblyman Palmesano to have this great recognition for somebody who died in the line of serving our community and sacrificed the ultimate sacrifice for that," said Senator Tom O'Mara. "It just shows the dangers that law enforcement encounter."

"There's no greater hero to look up to than Trooper Nicholas Clark," said Assemblyman Phil Palmesano. "But it's incumbent upon us, as people drive by that sign, talk to their family members, talk to their children, talk to them about Trooper Clark and what he did and what he sacrificed to keep us all safe."
