Corning Inc. makes special donation to American Red Cross

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Thursday morning, the Corning Inc. Foundation presented a $25,000 check to Finger Lakes American Red Cross.
The money will support fire prevention programs hosted by the Red Cross. All year round, the Red Cross partners with Wallin Insurance Inc. to go home-to-home, installing free smoke alarms and educating people about fire safety.
This is an important program, because every single day seven people die in house fires across the country.
The executive director of Finger Lakes Red Cross, says that's why the fire safety program is so critical to have.
"Our most frequent and most deadly disaster nationwide is home fires. The American Red Cross is interested in trying to save lives, and reduce the risk of the potential for individuals losing their lives in home fires," says Brian McConnell, Executive Director of Finger Lakes American Red Cross.
