Thursday marked the nationwide roll out of Burger King's "Impossible Whopper". The burger is plant based and no meat is used in the patty.

The roll out has gotten extensive news coverage the past couple of weeks, and according to Watkins Glen, N.Y. based Farm Sanctuary, they helped pave the way for it almost 30-years-ago.

The farm animal sanctuary says back in 1992, they successfully persuaded the Burger King in Watkins Glen to sell its first veggie burger. After the success of that burger, it led to the development of the "BK Veggie", the predecessor to the "Impossible Whopper".

The "BK Veggie" was the first meatless burger for the worldwide fast food chain.
