Arnot Health residency program sees biggest class graduate

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Friday night, dozens of residents graduated from Arnot Health's Graduate Medical Education Residency Program.
The Hilltop Inn hosted the event, which saw 41 graduates, the largest class so far for the program. Out of the 41, officials say about a third of the graduates will be saying in the area to practice, and 10 are staying directly with Arnot Health.
"This is how we are able to continue to bring highly trained specialists and primary care physicians and be able to alleviate some of the needs and the unmet physician demands in the region," said Jonathan Lawrence, President and CEO of Arnot Health.
One of the graduates, Cliff Snellgrove, is from Alabama, but he says he will be staying in the area as a primary care physician. He says he found a family at Arnot Health and looks forward to serving the patients in the community.
"This is an underserved area, and there's a need for physicians of all specialties, especially primary care," said Snellgrove. "I hope I can do my part as a primary care physician to help this community stay healthy and happy."
Along with primary care, graduates came from all of Arnot's residency programs, including emergency medicine.
