(WENY) -- The highest award for heroism given by New York State Police was presented to the family of Trooper Nicholas Clark.

The award was given to the family by the acting NYSP Superintendent Keith Corlett. The Brummer award was established in 1968 and it represents valor, heroism, and outstanding performance. Trooper Clark was killed last July in the Town of Erwin after responding to a call for an armed suicidal subject.

Trooper Clark was a three-year-veteran of the New York State Police, he was assigned to the Bath Barracks. Troopers say Trooper Clark demonstrated courage and strength over his career, and his life.
