ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) – Over the weekend, Cornell University students volunteered to hold a youth event called "Build Day" with the Ithaca Children's Garden.
On April 27, the Cornell University chapter of the Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) ran a free showcase at the garden. There, they installed 10 eco-friendly sustainable planters at the main entrance and within the garden.
During the showcase, over 40 participants watched multiple engineering demonstrations that featured a wind turbine, a pico-hydro turbine and more. The live demonstration served as an opportunity to educate and encourage the community to learn more about renewable energy.
“Our overarching goal with Build Day is to have a positive impact on the garden and community with the planter boxes we build on Build Day,” Trisha Ray, Cornell Build Day Project Lead explained. We hope that our team’s passion for sustainability and engineering will help bring awareness to different issues such as climate change during the Build Day.”
