STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Three people are behind bars in Steuben County for their roles in a multi-state drug ring involving crystal meth.

Police say during a six month joint investigation between the Steuben County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigation Unit, United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the City of Corning Police Department, into the importation and distribution of crystal meth in Steuben County, three people were arrested after police found three pounds of crystal meth, valued at approximately $130,000.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, 55-year-old Dennis Jewell and 54-year-old Sheila Bates-Booth, both of Covington, Georgia, were both arrested on a federal warrant for alleged possession and conspiracy to distribute meth. Jewell and Bates-Booth both allegedly possessed over two pounds of meth, allegedly bought in New York State, to be sold in Steuben County.

Jewell and Bates-Booth were remanded on a federal warrant to the Steuben County Jail without bail.

Subsequent to those arrests, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office says 50-year-old Deborah K. Padgett of Elkland, Pennsylvania was also arrested on a federal warrant for alleged possession and conspiracy to distribute meth. She is in federal custody.

Police say the investigation successfully shut down a alleged distribution ring of crystal meth from Georgia to Steuben County, which resulted in more than 32 pounds of meth distributed throughout the county.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are pending at this time.
