ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) – Ithaca Police Chief Pete Tyler announced Tuesday he will retire from the force in May.

In his letter, Tyler says his last day will be May 31.

Tyler has served in the law enforcement field for 28 years.

“I can truly say that I couldn’t have asked for a better experience than serving the fine citizens of Ithaca, NY and the greater Tompkins County community,” wrties Chief Tyler. “It has not always been easy, but throughout my career many lessons have been gained. I’ve done my best to lead by example, pass along lessons learned, and create opportunities for growth and advancement to the men and woman here at the IPD.”

Tyler says in retirement, he is working with “several job opportunities” which will “allow me to continue with my passion of instructing first responders”.
